GRAMMAR

Present Simple vs Present continuous Theory:

PRESENT SIMPLE:

I play badminton every week. (Yo juego a badminton todas las semanas)

She plays table tennis on Mondays.

He plays hockey at school. (Él juega a hockey en el colegio)

* Se añade -s al verbo cuando hablamos en tercera persona (She/He)  Review with Among us

Now let's watch a video to put language in action: CLASS BOOK page 9.

TEAMS CHALLANGE
Challange 1: How many sentences can you make to describe the routine of this neighborhood. You have 5 minutesUse Present Simple.

Example: She plays the harp every day.

 PRESENT CONTINUOUS:

Sujeto + verbo TO BE + verbo -ING

I’m doing gymnastics now. (Yo estoy haciendo gimnasia ahora)

She’s trampolining in this photo.

They are playing hockey today.

Sujeto + like/likes + verbo terminado en -ing

 Por ejemplo:

like going to the football stadium. – Me gusta ir al estadio de fútbol.

She likes doing gymnastics. – A ella le gusta hacer gimnasia.

TEAMS CONTEST SPEAKING PRACTICE: The team or teams with more correct sentences wins a point in Classdojo. ORAL GAME Present Continuous

TEAMS CHALLANGE

Let's study the differences between PRESENT SIMPLE and PRESENT CONTINUOUS:

Explanation in Spanish about when to use PRESENT SIMPLE or PRESENT CONTINUOUS

The Present Simple and Present Continuous are two tenses we use to talk about actions happening in the present. Let's understand the difference between them.

Present Simple: We use the Present Simple to talk about regular actions, routines, habits, or general facts. It describes actions that happen repeatedly or are true in general. For example:

1. "I brush my teeth every morning." (This action happens every day)
2. "Cats purr when they are happy." (This is a fact about cats in general)
3. "She always reads a book before going to bed." (This is her regular habit)

Present Continuous: We use the Present Continuous to talk about actions happening right now or around the present moment. It describes actions that are in progress or temporary. For example:

1. "I am eating dinner." (The action is happening at this moment)
2. "They are playing soccer in the park." (The action is happening around the present time)
3. "She is studying for her exam tomorrow." (The action is in progress)

Analogies:

1. Weather Analogy: Think of the Present Simple as the weather forecast that tells you the usual weather patterns. For example, "It snows in winter." On the other hand, the Present Continuous is like looking outside your window and saying, "It is raining right now."

2. Clock Analogy: The Present Simple is like the ticking of a clock that happens regularly, such as "The clock ticks every second." In contrast, the Present Continuous is like the hands of a clock that are moving right now, indicating the current time.

3. Diary Analogy: The Present Simple is like writing in your diary to record your daily routines, like "I go to school every day." On the other hand, the Present Continuous is like writing in your diary about what you are doing at the very moment, such as "I am writing in my diary right now."

4. TV Show Analogy: The Present Simple is like a TV show that airs at a fixed time every day, like "The news starts at 7 PM." Conversely, the Present Continuous is like watching a live TV show, where things are happening in real-time, such as "They are performing live on stage."

5. Picture Analogy: Imagine the Present Simple as a still picture that captures a regular scene, like "The sun rises in the morning." In contrast, the Present Continuous is like watching a video where actions are happening continuously, like "The waves are crashing against the shore."

Remember, using the correct tense helps us to express ourselves accurately and clearly when describing events in the present.

                          Why and because

Veamos algunos ejemplos:

Why are you happy? – ¿Por qué estás feliz?

Because I’m doing gymnastics. – Porque estoy haciendo gymnasia.

Why are they sad? – ¿Por qué están ellos tristes?

Because they’re loosing the match. – Porque están perdiendo el partido.

Why is she tired? – ¿Por qué está ella cansada?

Because she’s playing football. – Porque ella está jugando al fútbol.

Why is he hot? – ¿Por qué tiene él calor?

Because he’s wearing a hat and a scarf.
