THE 4th MUSKETEER
Hello students! Next Monday 11th we are going to watch a play, in English! Yes! Let's find out more about the amazing play.
But first let's watch an introduction, be ready!
In a small square in Paris we find Francine
and Gaston, two comedians who welcome us to
the city and invite us to enjoy it. Both are great
fun and are always ready to tell the public all
kinds of stories. Today, specifically, they will tell
the story of D’Artagnan and the Musketeers. For
this Francine and Gaston propose themselves to
be the ones who represent the various characters
in it. Gaston assumes the role of D’Artagnan and
Francine the other characters. That’s how the
story begins ...
A long, long time ago, in the time of King
Louis XIII, in the small village of Gascony, the
brave young D’Artagnan takes the road to Paris to
fulfill his dream of becoming a Musketeer, serving
the King and Queen of France , protecting them
from all types of attack. D’Artagnan leaves home
on horseback, with thirty pieces of silver and a
letter of recommendation written by his father
and must be delivered to Monsieur de Treville.
As D’Artagnan is very tired, he decides
to rest at an inn, where he is served by an
innkeeper and his assistant, the young Planchet.
D’Artagnan insists that his dream is to become
a Musketeer and the innkeeper offers him food
and drink in exchange for a coin. At one point in
the conversation, the young D’Artagnan tells the
innkeeper that he wants to fight against the evil
Cardinal Richelieu, which makes the innkeeper,
who is actually not an innkeeper, but Milady de
Winter, a friend and ally of Cardinal Richelieu,
poison D´Artagnan´s food and drink and this
results in D’Artagnan fainting. Milady de Winter
as the innkeeper steals all D’Artagnan´s money
and the letter and takes off, leaving the poor
D’Artagnan alone.
When D’Artagnan awakes, he is very angry
and very determined, and sets about practicing
with the sword ready to avenge. During which
time, Athos, the King´s Musketeer laughs when
he sees D’Artagnan. Not knowing that Athos is a
King´s Musketeer he challenges him to a duel and
Athos wins. Very friendly, he tells D’Artagnan
that with his help and the help of the other two
Musketeers Aramis and Porthos he will learn
the rules to become a good Musketeer and their
motto “All for one and one for all. The rules go
very well for D’Artagnan because he learns how
to use a sword correctly and feels safer then to go
to Paris to become a Musketeer. Athos, Porthos,
and Aramis say goodbye to D’Artagnan and wish
him good luck.
D’Artagnan arrives in Paris and ... what do you think is going to happen? You don't know? We will need to wait until next Monday to discover how this story ends.
